30 Of History’s Most Shocking And Mysterious Cold Cases

Who was the Boy in the Box?

In one of the most gruesome murder cases involving an innocent child, an unknown boy, believed to be between four and six-years-old, had been found dead and naked inside a cardboard box in Philadelphia in 1957. No one knew the boy and no one stepped forward to help solve the case. Several theories had been presented, including the one speculating that the boy was the step son of a man who owned a foster home located near where the boy’s body was found. Another theory presented by a woman who was identified to have been suffering from mental illness claimed that the boy was a sex slave before being murdered. None of the theories carried substantial evidences, and the case remains open to this day.

The cold case of Barbara and Patricia Grimes’ deaths

Barbara and Patricia Grimes were sisters whose death were widely covered in media but remained a mystery even today. They went out to watch a movie on December 28, 1956 but never came back home. They were found dead on January 22, 1957. Autopsy reports showed they died of hypothermia, but nothing on the reports said anything about the bruises and wounds they sustained, including holes that might have been from an ice pick stab. The authorities also found out that Barbara had been raped before she was killed. Benny Bedwell, a homeless man, was suspected and confessed, but later retracted his statement, saying that he was coerced by police officers to make the confession.
