Hysterical and half-naked
She was found running hysterically, half-naked, and handcuffed. There was a chain around her neck, and she was badly beaten. She identified Rhoades as her attacker. Police immediately ran a search in Rhoades’ house where they found torture items and several photos of the same teenage girl, shackled and naked in the house and in a barn.
In fear
The girl from Houston initially, positively identified Rhoades and his truck but retracted her statement when she came face-to-face with the assailant. Because of this, Rhoades was able to walk away a free man. Later, investigations revealed that the woman withdrew her statement against Rhoades out of fear. She thought that there were not enough police officers to protect her from Rhoades- who had brutally violated and tortured her for weeks- if she identified him.
