Addicted

While Joe may have been a steroid user, a friend said that Rivers was actually addicted to meth. He was actually a longtime user of painkillers and cocaine. This addiction tightened the dragnet he had unwittingly created for himself. Joseph Mallon, a professional boilermaker, said that he often went to the shop to get high on “crank” with Rivers.

Bad Habits

Rivers has recently acquired an addiction to meth. When Mallon would take a hit with him, he would stay awake for as long as four days. Because of lack of sleep, Rivers had become paranoid. He would be in the shop for days at a time and stay there until late at night, shining a light on each car just to check if there were people inside.
