While studying engineering at Bristol, he would end up meeting Berlinah Wallace on a dating site for people who had HIV. Wallace was a fashion student who also happened to be 20 years older than him. But soon enough, the couple would begin a lengthy relationship that eventually had them moving in together.

As their relationship progressed, they would even talk about starting a family. But since both of them had HIV, they had to consider having children via IVF, otherwise known as In Vitro Fertilization, in order to make sure that their child wouldn’t contract the disease. Yet despite all their future making plans, things would sour soon enough.
