The popular American department store was founded in 1902 – and it was always doing business as JCPenney under J.C. Penney Company, Inc. founded by James Cash Penney. Yes, there’s that glaring extra “e” right there constantly reminding you of the spelling mistake you’ve been making for years. But it can make sense to call it that way, marketing itself as a store offering products that are worth its customers’ every penny.
