When a few days would pass with nary a peep from David, his family began to worry. It wasn’t like him to seemingly just disappear. At first, his family just thought that he must be in a remote area without any internet, but when he failed to arrive in Seoul, South Korea, on August 26th to meet up with his brother Michael, his family knew something was amiss and they called the Chinese authorities immediately.

Thankfully, the police began a search into David’s whereabouts quickly, but much to his family’s dismay, they weren’t going to have good news. They had tracked him back to a Korean café named Yak Bar in Shangri-La on April 14, which was located in the Yunnan province bordering Myanmar. Apparently he had been on a hike at the Tiger Leaping Gorge, and had spoken to the café’s owner on his return. He had even explained how he was headed back to his hostel in Qiaotou before continuing on with his trip.
