Shortly after the Beaumonts’ return to their home, they had received another letter from the same author stating that he withheld the children because he spotted an undercover police in the area. He said that he would keep the children forever. But a forensic analysis conducted 25 years later proved that the series of letters were nothing but a hoax, leaving the case unsolved to this day.
