On May 25, 1979, Etan Patz, 6, of Manhattan, New York disappeared, sparking one of the most notorious missing child cases in the state. On that fateful day, the Patzs had a hectic morning as they were preparing for the Memorial Day weekend. Julie, Etan’s mom, ran a day care and was taking care of her two-year-old child at the same time. Etan, the 6-year-old boy who had been pushing for more independence, didn’t want to bother his mom, so he asked if he could walk to school by himself. Julie remembered Etan saying, “It’s fine, Mom. I can do it.”
