Everyone knows at least one person who believes that the ‘New World Order’ is a real thing. They’re often called out as conspiracy nuts and ignored. But what if they’re actually right? As you’ll read below, plenty of evidence suggests that a secret global economic policies does exist.
In 2013, WikiLeaks released the secretly negotiated draft text for the entire TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) Intellectual Property Rights Chapter. It revealed a closed-door regional free trade agreement being negotiated by countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States, and Vietnam. The Electronic Frontier Foundation says TPP has “extensive negative ramifications for users’ freedom of speech, right to privacy and due process, and [will] hinder peoples’ abilities to innovate.”
It’s also worth noting that in June 2014, WikiLeaks revealed the even more far-reaching Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA). The 50-country agreement will promote unprecedented levels of privatization across the world. Additionally, it will also prevent governments from returning public services into public hands. This could dramatically affect peoples’ ability to enact environmental regulations and keep workers safe.
It’s also worth knowing that during the 20th century, well-known statesman such as Woodrow Wilson and Winston Churchill used the term “new world order” to refer to a new period of history in which a dramatic change in world political thought and the balance of power after WWI and WWII was realized. All saw such a period as opportunities to implement idealistic or liberal proposals for global governance only in the sense of new collective efforts to identify, understand, or address worldwide problems that go beyond what individual nation-states can solve.
Certain proposals led to the creation of international organizations, such as the United United Nations and N.A.T.O. Additionally, the Bretton Woods system an dthe Gernal Agreements on Tariffs and Trade were formed. Both were calculated to maintain a balance of power as well as to regularize cooperation between nations in an attempt to achieve a peaceful phase of capitalism.
After WWI and WWII, the international organizations and regimes were welcomed by progressives. However, it was argued that they suffered from a democratic deficit and, therefore, were incapable of preventing another global war and fostering global justice.
In 1949, American banker David Rockefeller joined the Council on Foreign Relations as the youngest-ever director. Subsequently, he became chairman of the board from 1970 to 1985 and today, serves as honorary chairman. In his memoir – published in 2002, he wrote:

“For more than a century ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents … to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as ‘internationalists’ and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure – one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.”

In the 1940’s, the term “new world order” was appropriated and redefined as a synonym for the establishment of a full-fledged social democratic world government. In the 1960’s, many right-wing ‘conspiracy theorists’ focused on the United Nations as the vehicle for the “One World Government”. Some believe the UN’s intentions are what led the United States to withdrawal. Mary M. Davison, an American writer, wrote in the booklet “The Profound Revolution” in 1996 that the New World Order conspiracy can be traced to teh creation fo the U.S. Federal Reserve System in 1913 by international bankers. She claimed this group later formed the Council on Foreign Relations in 1921 as the “shadow government.”
Around the same time, American televangelist Pat Robertson wrote in his 1991 best-selling book The New World Order that Wall Street, the Federal Reserve System, Council on Foreign Relations, Bilderberg Group, and Trilateral Commission control are in charge of the flow of events from “behind the scenes”. His religious perspective inspired him to proclaim that the Order is paving way for the Antichrist.
Even Gordon Brown, Henry Kissinger, and Barack Obama used the term “new world order” in their advocacy for a Keynesian reform of the global financial system in the 2000’s. They called for a “New Bretton Woods”, which takes into account emerging markets such as China and India. Their word choice was fodder for conspiracy nuts. Since then, a movie on the subject has been produced (called New World Order) and banter concerning the likely existence of a Secret Global Economic Policies has only increased.
