Believe it or not, the CIA ran secret mind control experiments on U.S. citizens from the 1950’s until 1973. Truly! President Clinton even issued a formal apology on behalf of the U.S. government in 1995.
The CIA was revealed to be working on a covert operation called “Project MK-ULTRA” to design a serum that could force people to tell the truth.  The government agency used drugs, electronics, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, verbal and sexual abuse, and torture to conduct experimental behavioral engineering experiments on subjects. Hundreds of projects were subcontracted by the program to over 80 different institutions, including university, prisons, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies.
The existence of the project was a conspiracy until it was proven in 1977, when a Freedom of Information Act exposed 20,000 previously classified documents. The leaked documents triggered a series of Senate hearings. Because CIA Director Richard Helms had most of the more damning MK-ULTRA files destroyed in 1973, much of what actually occurred during these experiments is still unknown. Not a single person was brought to justice.
