The disappearance of Madeleine McCann took the world by storm. Apparently, the news garnered almost as much publicity as the death of Diana, Princess of Wales. There was even one media outlet that had called her story “the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history.” And until today, people still remember the story of the young little McCann being allegedly kidnapped from her room.

Regret in hindsight

As the days and months followed the investigation of the missing McCann child, specifics began to come out in the lack of how effective all the different authorities involved really were. The Portuguese police failed to put up a border around the area and at sea until 9 a.m. the next day, even after Madeleine had been found missing at 10 p.m. the night before.
