Haiku Stairs Of Oahu, Hawaii

While known as the Haiku Stairs of Oahu, others call these precariously placed stairs the ‘Stairway to Heaven.’ Built back in 1942 by the U.S. Navy, they were originally used to send out signals to passing ships over the Pacific Ocean. The dangerously placed stairs are composed of a total of 3,922 steps, with just a handrail on the sides to keep you in place. Sadly, they were closed in 2002 for repairs and never opened again. But locals and tourists alike still attempt to get past security in order to climb these perilous stairs. Just think about the photo op!
