Although no one knew it at the time, Deleon and his accomplices had gone through with their muderous plans. After which, they fled to Mexico thinking that they would be safer there in the aftermath of the Hawks’ disppearance. Then, on November 26, Deleon had attempted to get access to one of Tom and Jackie’s accounts while in Mexico. Although at the time, no one would knew that it was Deleeon who had tried to get into it, it still prompted the authorities to look further into the case of the missing couple, as well as getting their family involved.

Filing A Missing Persons Report

By November 27, Hawks’ brother James, who happened to be a former police chief in Carlsbad, would hear that Tom and Jackie had been missing since the 15th. It was unlikely that they had just vanished without a trace, so he decided to file a missing persons report. This is when they would actually go on the boat and take a look around in search of foul play, and they would find some very incriminating evidence.
