Buddhist Monk on Fire
An image taken of Thich Quang Duc, a Buddhist monk in Vietnam. On protest regarding alleged persecution of Buddhist by the South Vietnamese government, he burned himself to death on a Saigon street on June 11, 1963. Then President Ngo Dình Diem, part of the Catholic minority, had adopted policies that discriminated against Buddhists and gave high favor to Catholics.
