Coming To His Rescue

She shares her thoughts, “I had no other option. I saw him go down, and there was no choice in my mind. I wasn’t going to let someone lay there and die.” When she reached the man, she saw that he was in uniform, but he had groceries with him so it would seem that he was off-duty at the time. Shelby shares, “I found this agent down with multiple gunshot wounds and I just knew we needed to control the bleeding and keep him as calm as possible.”

Not Worrying About Her Own Safety

Regardless of knowing whether the shooter was still around, Shelby rushed over and chose to help the man who had been severely injured. While others called for help, and a few other people made their way out to assist as best they could, Shelby was already putting her nursing school practices into good use. Luckily for the officer, she was able to control the wounds and the bleeding while waiting for the paramedics to arrive.
