5. “Hot” Joints
Gout patients also experience a feeling of warmth in the areas surrounding the affected joint, again as a result of the body’s inflammatory response to the unusually high amounts of uric acid crystals that irritate and damage the joints. The increase in circulation draws blood from the body’s core (which normally has a higher temperature compared to that of the extremities) and delivers it to the ailing joint, making it feel hotter or warmer to the touch.
