The UK’s infamous Auction house, Sotheby’s, has the HMS Terrible Toy Battleship on the top of their list as most expensive toy ever sold during one of their auctions. This exact toy replica of the 1895 Royal Navy ship, used in the Boer War, had belonged to an avid toy collector who ended up passing away in 2011. So when it went to auction, two particular toy collectors went into a bidding war until one got it for a crippling $122,600.

1969 Volkswagen Beach Bomb Prototype, $125,000

The 1969 “Volkswagen Beach Bomb” was the epitome of ‘surfer cool’ when it first came out. It was the ultimate surf car, big enough to carry your surfboard to the shore, and pink enough to make a statement. But sadly, this van ended up remaining just a prototype because the boards hanging out of the back were considered too big, while its wheels were too wide as well. Lucky for the few that managed to hang on to theirs, these days it’s worth a cool $125,000.
