MAKING THE DECISION

Then, Anne’s sister, Margot, received a letter on June 1942. She was required to report for labor transportation back to Germany. This was the last straw. They knew that most of the Jews were being emigrated to concentration camps that were unlivable. With the constant raids and capture, the family was left with no choice but to go into hiding. They thought that this difficult stage in their lives wouldn’t last as long as it did. They were obviously mistaken.

TWO YEARS IN HIDING

Otto gathered his family and hid. The Frank family left their home and settled into the rear annex of Oprekta. They weren’t alone in this difficult time. They were joined by other Jews, the Van Pels family, and dentist Fritz Pfeffer. Otto’s employees assisted them and kept their secret under wraps and for a while, they were quite successful.
