1. Never Confuse the United Kingdom with England
Many people think that the terms United Kingdom, England, Great Britain and British Isles are one and the same. They’re not, and many visitors often find themselves calling the UK, England, a big mistake that can raise a few eyebrows over there.
England is only one of the four countries that make up the UK, the others being Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland. Despite being part of the Union, each of these countries have their own governments, and cultures and customs, making up their national identities.
Calling people who live in the UK as English might offend some, especially if they identify as either Scottish, Irish, or Welsh.
