Say ‘St. Patty’s Day’
St. Patrick’s Day is Ireland’s National Festival day, which celebrates their patron saint, St. Patrick. Supposedly it was St. Patrick that brought Christianity to Ireland, so he is deeply loved and placed in very high regard. There’s nothing that bugs the Irish more than calling it St. Patty’s Day, since the actual diminutive form of Patrick is ‘Paddy,’ not ‘Patty.’ So if you do decide to shorten the term, be sure you say ‘St. Paddy’s Day,’ especially if you’re a tourist in Ireland.
