Knowing that they would still need to run more tests on the new evidence, Zaragoza was able to arrest Krebs on a parole violation. He had a BB gun with him at work, when his parole clearly stated that he is not allowed to have any kind of ammunition. From there, Zaragoza was able to extract all the information that they needed to get Krebs to confess to the horrible abductions, rapes, and murders of the two college students.

Getting Krebs To Talk

Zaragoza solicited help from a 30-year law enforcement expert, Larry Hobson. After getting all the details of the case, he knew just how to elicit a confession from Krebs. He built a rapport with the jailed convict and slowly got his trust. When asked about his methods, Hobson said, “I’d just go out to the jail and pick him up, and I’d go to El Chorro Park. He’d smoke some cigarettes over there, sit around and chew the fat. At that time, I’d say, ‘Rex, I need your help. You’ve told me you weren’t involved with this. And you’ve had some experience being a rapist. So I want to pick your brain so you can help me solve the case.’” And Krebs, taking the bait, would say “Here’s what I’d do…”
