Although the sexual revolution began in the 60s, it continued well into the 70s and even had one toy maker wanting a piece of the game. In 1978, Gay Bob appeared on shelves proudly announcing that ‘he was here and queer!’ And while his face may have been based on a mix between Paul Newman and Robert Redford, who knows whom the toy maker based Gay Bob’s very atomically correct private parts on. And while the advertisement read ‘Barbi and Ken … move over,’ there was no way any parent was going to allow that to happen.
