Getting Married At 11

Not only did she elope at the young age of 11, her husband was also a child himself, being only 13-years old. He was a boy named Ionel Stanescu, who was said to be a jewelry seller. It was actually Rifca’s mom who allowed her to go and get married to Ionel since she knew that’s what her daughter had wanted.

Consummating Her Marriage

Rifca shares of Ionel, “I wanted to marry him, so I agreed, and of course after we had spent the night together then there was no way anyone could separate us. I had been promised to another boy’s family since I was two years old but I didn’t want that.”
