Following ‘Tradition’

In spite of Rifca trying to get her children to follow a different path, her daughter Maria still ended up marrying just as young as Rifca was when she got married. Especially since in the Romanian gypsy community, it was so common for children to wed at such young ages.

Maria Has A Baby At 11

Maria, after only 6 months of getting married, quickly got pregnant with her first baby and gave birth at the unbelievable age of 11. Her mom Rifca said, “I did not try to stop my daughter getting married because this is the tradition, it’s what happens. I am happy to be a grandmother but I wished something else for Maria – and something else for me.”
