“We have a general idea of what happened finally,” the judge said. “But there are still questions which may never be answered.”
There are some details that Tousignant says are certain, however. “He did have intercourse with her while she was dead,” she said. “He’s still alive. Carrie’s gone. The only time I’ll see her again is in heaven.”

In response to the sentencing, Ferreira said in court, “I can’t take back how it happened. Sorry, from the deepest pain in my heart, sorry.” Tousignant said that she wasn’t buying Ferreira’s apology and that she believes her daughter had been haunting Ferreira all these years.
“That girl was very persistent,” her mother said. “Now she can rest. Now we can all rest.”
