Spotting Him In The River

Unbelievably, on July 12, 2012, as the helicopter was searching for him in the rugged terrain, he would actually be seen sitting in the Escalante River, in his attempt to stay cool and hydrated in the hot summer sun. He managed to wave at the helicopter as it flew above him, but he wasn’t able to do much else.

They Couldn’t Believe It

According to Oldfield, “We came around the corner and we were pretty amazed to see him alive and sitting up.” He also explained, “It was really a needle in a haystack kind of thing. The stars aligned for him just right,” pretty much believing the whole time that they weren’t going to be able to find him at all, or alive for that matter.
