When she was 6, she was sent back to live with her parents. Her mother was pregnant with her younger brother, and this would also be the time that Marina would begin her interest in the arts, more especially in painting. Under her mother’s “complete military-style control of me and my brother,” she would flourish in her art. She even said in an interview that her mother used to beat her. But she would continue to live with her parents up until she was the age of 29.

The Academy of Fine Arts

Eventually, she would go to the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade. Then in 1972, she would transfer and graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Croatia. She even ended up teaching in another art school in Novi Sad. And this is where she would begin her career in performance art.
