Lori reportedly started acting erratically after Blake filed for divorce. The Ruff family claimed that she began sending harassing emails to them and that she made a scene at a custody exchange, allegedly stealing a set of house keys from them. She may have even tried to break into the house at one point.

One neighbor recalled seeing Lori and her daughter and said they both looked very thin. When speaking with Lori, she apparently would ramble on incoherently about her problems. All of this behavior led the Ruff family to file a cease and desist order against Lori just before her death.
