Kaplan said that the Panogen hypothesis made people focus on the question of safety in transporting the grain instead of focusing on the issue of flour and the how it is distributed. He also questions the theory that the water may have been polluted, saying that everyone in the village would have been affected if that were the case. But Kaplan does say that another overlooked issue has to be studied more closely.
