Seeing Even More Ships

Callahan even says that it wasn’t just one ship he saw, but quite a few. And no matter how many flares he would fire, it would seem that no one would even notice him floating along. He says, “Every morning came with a bit of hope, but by each afternoon I was in despair. I did see a handful of ships, but none of them saw me. After a month at sea, I’d drifted right through the shipping lanes.” It would seem that he was doomed to die in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Floating Further Out To Sea

The longer he remained at sea, the further he was traveling out to the middle of nowhere, or so it felt. He was floating into more tropical waters, and the sun was reaching much stronger temperatures. Slowly, the sun was taking an even worse toll on his body. He was suffering from horrible dehydration, salt-water sores, and a hunger and thirst that wouldn’t go away.
