Civil rights leader and revolutionary Martin Luther King, Jr. was an important figure in the battle for equal rights in the United States of America in the 1960s and helped change the landscape for the African American community there. In April of 1968, while on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, King was gunned down by James Earl Ray, an event that would affect the USA as a nation. This photograph was taken on the exact place he was assassinated, one day earlier.
