A Monster Is Convicted
As for Dmitriy, his trial lasted 3-weeks and had over 40 witnesses testified against him. One was a coroner who had said that the body of Alekseyev had been mutilated by someone with obvious medical experience, which was in line with Yakovlev’s surgical background. And despite the fact that the bodies of his other victims had never been found, Dmitriy would still be found guilty of murder. On March 4, 2010, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for 17 counts of identity theft, fraud and murder. Finally, a monster had been rightfully placed behind bars. After everything, one agent commented, “There was a definite feeling of relief when that verdict was announced. I knew we did something for those families.”
