But how does Auroville make money? Well, the town has been carefully planned and laid out, with one area dedicated to the industrial business. This zone is open for “green” industries such as training centers, art and crafts businesses, and the city administration. Its goal is to open the place to establishments that can afford enough revenue for the town to be self-sufficient.

Residential Area

Of course, what is a town without its residents? The residential area is the largest of the four city zones. It covers 189 hectares of land and is surrounded by nature. The parks found in the north, south, east, and west ends give a fresh feel to the place. In fact, 55 percent of the area is designated for the greens and the other 45 percent is for the structure itself. Hence, Auroville stays true to be close to nature.
