So, after 16 months since their abduction, the children had finally faced their kidnappers in court to testify against them. They all agreed that aside from the emotional trauma, they provided proof of physical wounds such as cuts, bruises, and burns. The children, who were once victims, had become heroes. They were rewarded a trip to Disneyland in order to give them some form of reprieve, and while many had still suffered from anxiety long after, they were also given the chance to get back a portion of their childhood that had been permanently lost from the ordeal. And as for the kidnappers, the Schoenfeld brothers were given a chance to file for parole at the retrial, while to this day, Fred continues to unsuccessfully seek for his freedom.
