Once the men had the valuables loaded up in their car, they visited the guards for the last time, telling them that they’ll be hearing from the thieves within a year. They didn’t even bother to remove the cuffs from Abeth and his partner. They just left the museum and abandoned the innocent guards there until the actual police came the very next day at 8:15 in the morning.

Initial Investigation

The first thing that authorities did was to check the motion sensors, security cameras, and get statements from the guards to get an idea of how the suspects looked. Then, they checked the detector records and saw that the first set of footsteps detected in the Blue Room were half past midnight and again a little before 1:00 a.m. These were the exact times that Abeth passed through as he was going around the museum.
