Strangely familiar yet disturbingly alien

The mummy’s features looked like something they’ve seen before. They couldn’t quite place what it was because of its shriveled state. It had a long, protruding snout with a mouth full of menacing teeth. It somehow resembled a bear or a wolf, only it had dark leathery skin. It couldn’t have been a bear since it was much smaller in size, nor could it have been a wolf since those have never been seen around the area for almost 100 years. Surely there had to be an explanation.
