9. Urgent Need to Pee
The ureters, hollow tubes that serve as passageways for urine, contain sensitive receptors around its walls. When urine coming from the kidneys pass through, the walls of the ureters stretch, activating the receptors. The activated receptors then signal the brain to empty the urinary bladder by urging the patient to pee and make room for the fresh urine coming from the kidney.
Kidney stones passing through the ureters also activate the receptors in the same way that urine does, signaling the brain to empty the bladder, urging the patient to pee even if no urine is present.
