The convenience store, which “Nikki” would frequent, was very near the home of the Hose family. The owner, Joe Sparico, found it strange that such a young girl would be dating someone so much older than her. He had an odd feeling about their relationship but didn’t feel at the time that it was his place to say something. Then as time went by, Kach began to feel more and more comfortable speaking with Sparico.

A Break Through

Finally, one day in March of 2006, Kach finally got the courage to speak up about her situation, wanting a way out of her horrible situation. According to Joe, the store owner, “I guess she just chose me to lean on.” She had broken into tears as she spoke, saying that Hose would kill her for telling. Joe further explained, “From the way she was shaking when she told me, I think she really believed he would do it.”
