Making Plans

Two of the Turpin kids, a daughter who was 17, and another sibling had been planning their escape for two years already. Apparently, the conditions that they were living in had become too much to bear and they knew that they weren’t living in normal conditions by any means. Even if they’ve hardly had any contact with the outside world, being starved, beaten and tortured was something that anyone and everyone knew was just wrong. So while the 17-year old mustered the courage to escape through a tiny window in the house while the parents were out, the other sibling meant to go with her decided to stay, too worried about the repercussions if they weren’t successful.

The Escape

Apparently the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department was going to get the shock of their lives when they received a phone call from a girl in distress. She explained that she had escaped from her parents’ house, but that her 12 other siblings were still under lock and key, literally. Knowing they couldn’t leave anything to chance, they would go to the address that the girl would give, and upon their arrival, they would find exactly what she had described, and so much more.
