With the monitor turned on, the Barker finally spotted its target. The game was on! After waiting hours upon hours for a blip on the radar, a red dot appears and the crew spotted the slow-moving vehicle on its path. It was moving only at 6 knots and was headed to the floating icebergs. As soon as they were 400 feet away from the Thunder, Hammarstedt radioed the officers. He spoke with the help of a Spanish translator, as most of the Thunder’s officers were either Spaniards or Chileans. He gave them a dire warning and told them that fishing was banned in those waters.
