Fooling The Elderly
During the investigation, police were able to figure out that that apparently, that January, Towns had lost his job. He was working for a tree-removal company, and was “desperate for cash.” And they also discovered that the Runion couple was not his first victims. Towns had tried to dupe other people on Craigslist into believing he had items they needed as well.
At His Trial
When getting into the details of the case, the prosecutor assigned to the trial, Joshua Powell, explained that Towns had purposely bought a “burner” cell phone for the purpose of fooling people. He explained, “Jay Towns had a personal cell phone, but instead decided to buy this second telephone to contact the Runions.”
