A Fireplace For The Coldest Of Nights
Of course, the cabin wouldn’t be complete without a hearth. And because Richard was quite particular about how everything looked, he decided to design his own. The academic in him decided that he wanted it to look like the ones from 1796 to 1850, when wooden homes were very popular. He made a replica of the popular brick Rumford Fireplace.
A Workable Hearth
That particular kind of hearth was made not only to warm the place, but it was fully functional to cook a meal and make hot beverages in the cold weather. And as shown in the photos, it was truly fully utilitarian. Plus it made the place all cozy and warm.
