The last few years of Don’s life have not been as easy on him. He suffered from cancer and was mostly homebound, no longer able to leave the confines of his home. Yet, every morning, he would still head over to his window and take a look out to see if anyone needed his help. Wistfully for Moya, their three daughters and three grandchildren, Don lost his life on May 13, 2012. And although he has already gone before his family and loved ones, his memory and his incredible life will live on in their hearts and the hearts of Australia and the many people he helped save, forever. Don even said before he died, “I imagine somebody else will come along and do what I’ve been doing.” And after his remarkable deeds, Australia would be incredibly blessed to find another Don. His will be awfully big shoes to fill.
