Even the director of the mood disorder research center ‘Black Dog Institute,’ Gordon Parker, who happened to be a psychiatrist, shared his thoughts about people suffering with depression and suicidal thoughts. “They often don’t want to die, it’s more that they want the pain to go away. So anyone that offers kindness or hope has the capacity to help a number of people.”

On the days where Don wouldn’t be so lucky, his kindness wouldn’t stop once the person jumped. He would even wait for the rescue team to come to pick up the broken bodies below, and he would then invite them to his home ‘for a comforting drink,’ knowing how difficult it was to see someone actually jump over the edge to never come back.
