In an almost twisted development in the case, the trial would take a remarkable 5 years to finally come to pass. There were many stops due to jurors asking to be released from the trial because of the impossibility of being unbiased after seeing the crime photos. Plus Ortega’s defense team would also end up pushing for an insanity plea on her behalf, claiming that she had suffered a breakdown and didn’t even realize what she had done.
