The body can respond in different ways to help it battle against disease and kill invaders that cause sickness such as food poisoning. One of the ways it defends itself is by heating up the inside of the body, and it does this by raising metabolism. As a result of this increase in temperature, other regulatory processes begin to kick-in, such as the production of sweat, which has a cooling effect on the body therefore preventing it from overheating.

Excessive sweating can ultimately add to the fluid loss caused by diarrhea and vomiting in food poisoning patients, which is why replenishing yourself with water or with an electrolyte-rich sport drink is important to keep internal levels balanced.
