Headache is a common warning sign of food poisoning that can be characterized as a mild to moderate, generalized pain around the head. This may appear a few hours after the ingestion of contaminated food and can last from as short as a few hours to as long as a few days.

Headaches in food poisoning often result from the loss of fluids after continuous vomiting and diarrhea and is an early sign of dehydration which can be dangerous if not addressed immediately. Drinking plenty of water to replenish the lost fluids can help ease the symptom, but if that doesn’t work, over-the-counter pain medication is available to help decrease its severity.
