Dry Mouth And Eyes
People with lupus often experience dryness of the eyes, mouth, and with women, including the vagina. A gritty or sandy sensation may also be felt in their eyes, particularly in the morning. This is a condition called Sjogren’s syndrome, a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the glands that produce tears and saliva do not function correctly. This dryness happens as the immune system is attacking the moisture-producing glands of the eyes and mouth (the lacrimal and parotid glands, respectively), resulting in decreased tears and saliva.
