Many lupus patients suffer from gastrointestinal problems, particularly heartburn caused by the gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). In addition, due to certain medications used in lupus treatment, including NSAIDs and steroids, peptic ulcers may also be experienced. Digestive problems are also common, with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation among the symptoms which may have been caused by irregularities in the nervous system as affected by the disease.
