British hypnotist and television broadcaster Paul McKenna has written and produced several self-help books and multimedia products, he has presented seminars in hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming, zen meditation, motivation and weight loss and has made his name by using hypnotism as television entertainment. McKenna has hosted several live events on theaters throughout the world and has made so much money that he suggests his celebrity clients donate to charity instead of charging them. McKenna has been accused by his former partner and business manager Clare Staples of having different addictions, from taking cocaine, prescription pills and drinking from early in the morning to prostitutes and hallucinations in which the self-help guru talks to extra-terrestrials and Jesus, all of which has made her fear he might harm himself or others. Staples claimed she was the business partner responsible for McKenna’s global success and sued him for half his fortune. After the former model obtained a settlement her lawyer said to the press: “The evidence overwhelmingly supported Clare’s claims, which is presumably why McKenna agreed to a lucrative settlement just seven weeks before the Los Angeles trial was set to begin”.
